External users for embedded web apps

Organizations can embed web apps into their own web-based applications for use by external users, such as customers, vendors, or partners. Retool includes a number of options to customize the external user experience while all aspects of onboarding—user email invitations, to signup, permissions, the app experience, and more.

Organizations that build internal web apps (e.g., bulk CSV uploads, customer onboarding flows, or revenue dashboards) and want to expose them to external users would be a good fit for these features. You can create a whitelabel experience and invite your external users directly into your organization to access these apps.

Custom product pages​

Organizations can customize the user journey by replacing Retool’s login, reset password, signup, and invitation claims pages with Retool web apps. This makes it possible to build a fully custom experience for external users, provide you with complete control over branding, and develop custom functionality.

You can create and manage themes to apply a consistent style across your organization.

External user permission groups​

The External Users permission group is used to determine whether a user is considered external. You can also create other permission groups and manage group membership to control the level of access external users have.

Retool can automatically add new users to the External Users group based on a list of internal domains you provide. New users are only added if their email address domain is not on this list.

Pricing​

An external user is priced at the same rate as an end user on the Team and Business plans. However, usage for external use cases varies and the default pricing might not work for everyone. If you're pre-product or have hundreds of thousands of users, talk to our team to learn more.
