Learn about billing and usage for AI credits.

Overview​

Retool's AI powered features use organization-level monthly AI credits. Your organization's plan determines how many credits you receive each month. Credits renew on the first day of your plan’s billing cycle and do not roll over.

AI Credits​

AI credits track your usage across Retool's AI features. Prompts that require more complex reasoning, larger outputs, or process more data will consume more credits, while simpler prompts use fewer.

What uses AI credits:

  • App Building: AI-assisted app generation and editing in our new beta app building experience.
  • Assist: AI-assisted app generation and editing in our classic app builder.
  • AI Resource Queries: Queries against AI provider resources like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI, and more.

How credits are consumed:

  • Once organization credits are exhausted, the organization's bonus credit pool is used.
  • Credits do not roll over to the next month.

Credit Limits by Plan​

Your organization's AI credit allocation depends on your plan tier. When you reach your monthly limit, AI-powered features will be unavailable until credits renew at the start of the next billing cycle.

Purchasing Additional Credits​

Organization admins on eligible plans can purchase additional AI credit packs to extend their allocation. Packs are pooled at the organization level and are valid until the end of the next billing cycle - unused purchased credits do not roll over.

To purchase a credit pack, navigate to Settings > Plans & Billing and select Buy Credits under the Usage tab. If you are on an Enterprise plan, and would like to purchase additional credits, reach out to your Account Executive.

Credit pack purchasing is not available on the Free plan. To access additional credits, upgrade to a paid plan.

Monitor Usage​

Organization admins can monitor AI credit usage in Settings > Plans & Billing under the Usage tab. The AI credits section shows your organization's total credit consumption over time, with a cumulative view of usage across the billing period.

Frequently Asked Questions​

How will I know how many AI credits I will need?​

Prompts that require more complex reasoning or build larger outputs will use more credits, while simpler prompts use fewer. Actual credit consumption will depend on the specific tasks you perform. Retool recommends monitoring your usage to help you determine which plan is best suited for your organization's usage of AI-powered features.

Is usage calculated based on my organization or each individual builder?​

All builders use the same shared pool of AI credits.

How can I check the number of AI credits my organization has used?​

Organization admins can monitor AI credit usage in Settings > Plans & Billing under the Usage tab. The AI credits section shows your organization's total credit consumption over time.

Will converting classic apps to the new Retool app builder or importing React code use AI credits?​

No. For a limited time, converting classic apps to the new Retool app builder and importing React code are tracked separately and don't consume AI credits on any plan.

Do unused AI credits carry over to the next billing cycle?​

No. Your AI credits included in your plan refresh at the end of your billing cycle and do not roll over. Reach out to your admin for information about when your billing cycle ends.

What happens when my organization runs out of AI credits?​

When your organization reaches its monthly credit limit, AI-powered features will be unavailable. Your organization admin can purchase additional AI credits. Otherwise your credits renew at the start of your next billing cycle.

Can I bring my own keys (BYOK) with Retool?​

Enterprise customers can bring their own key for AI-powered features.

Is there a way to prevent my organization's users from using AI credits?​

Admins can manage AI features within their Retool account. Navigate to Settings > AI. Find the Updated App Builder setting and toggle the button to the off position.
